George, born in Madison, Wisconsin, the heart of the rust belt, learned the art of rust repair in his teens, then went on to the local Chevrolet dealer to learn the mechanical side. But short summers and long winters are not ideal for a hot rodder so, in 1986, it was on to North Texas. He settled in Dallas and went to work building cars for friends and himself while working days as a Cadillac technician. When talking with friends about work done elsewhere, the biggest complaints were poor quality work, arrogant street rod shops that want a credit card number just to talk to you, or both. Seeing the need for a shop that doesn’t view your car as their personal money tree, in 2000 he moved to Rockwall and a little shop with a simple goal: Build well thought out, dependable cars, and treat people like friends. Hot Rods by George is not a huge shop with prices and attitudes to match. It is a small shop designed to help friends and future friends with their projects.
